Dog trainer’s ’30 second’ test to check a puppy’s temperament goes viral

0

A social media video of a dog trainer showing off how he ‘tests’ a puppy’s temperament has stunned audiences online. The viral video, which has been viewed more than 906,000 times since it was first shared to TikTok on August 4, captured the dog trainer cradling the pet like a baby in a bid to check his response. The video’s creator argues that the ‘baby cradling method’ is a sure fire way to figure out whether the dog has a sweet or spicy temperament.

“This video is part of a puppy temperament test, which is essentially a look into the puppy’s potential,” the video’s creator, who goes by @AncestralCompanions on TikTok, told Newsweek.

“This dog is Cooper, he’s a few months old and he is taking our basic obedience program,” he added.

The trainer says in the post: “One of the ways that you can check your dog’s temperament is by holding them like a baby for 30 seconds and then seeing what they do, are they staying there? Are they relaxed? Are they just comfortable?”

“That’s a sign that your dog is going to be easy going and a little bit more of a chill dog,” the trainer added.

The video’s creator, the dog trainer, is based in Merced in California.

What Do The Comments Say?

Since it was shared to the social media platform on August 4 by @AncestralCompanions, the TikTok post has been liked by over 56,000 users and commented on more than 600 times. Plenty of TikTokers have shared their amusement at the trick, and how their own fur children respond to it, in the post’s comments section.

“My dog used to let me hold her like that and she would sleep but then she grew up and didn’t like it anymore,” one user wrote.

Another user added: “My dog tried to jump out of my arms.”

“My twist around like a tornado,” commented a third user.

A different TikToker commented: “My pup turns into a helicopter.”

Another user shared: “Okay, but my puppy was being held by his breeder like a baby for a good minute and I was like oh good sign and he’s actually a feral racoon in disguise.”

Bride and groom stun guests with what they do before kissing each other

0

A newlywed couple found a unique way to celebrate their first kiss as husband and wife that may be inspiring others to do the same.

Colette and Eli Erickson were determined to have a wedding that reflected some sense of their shared personality as a couple.

They are not alone in pushing for that either. According to a survey conducted by the wedding planning app The Knot, canvassing 12,000 couples who got married in 2022, 33 percent incorporated their own unique theme into their big day.

Colette Erickson told Newsweek their wedding day was full of little moments tailored to their personal preferences. They wanted to include certain friends and family members in elements of the wedding that they wouldn’t usually be part of.

“I got to do a couple first looks with my husband, my dad, my brother and my bridesmaid and that was super special to me,” she said.

It was those little touches that “made her day so special.” However, it’s one little touch in particular that has helped the couple go viral.

In a video posted to the newlyweds’ TikTok account, colette_eli, Colette and Eli can be seen exchanging vows at the altar. The celebrant can be heard to declare: “You may kiss the bride.”

But, rather than share the ceremonial embrace, both the bride and groom turn to their respective wedding parties, as “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang begins to play. Several of their watching guests begin to cheer, while Eli gets prepped for the kiss by each of his groomsmen in turn.

His suit is brushed down and his shoes get a quick polish, while some aftershave and a little breath spray is applied. Though Colette isn’t visible in the clip, she was going through a similar thing with her bridal party.

Eventually, when he is good and ready, Eli turns around and dashes back to Colette, embracing her in a moment that elicits more “woos” from their guests.

Posted alongside the caption: “This was such a perfect kiss,” the clip has been watched over 340,000 times, with many evidently eager to do the same at their wedding.

“I love this,” one viewer wrote, with another commenting: “I want to do this.” A third said: “I’m doing this at my wedding” with a fourth agreeing: “I wanna do this sooo bad.”

Erickson said they have been blown away by the response to the clip. “We love doing social media and we want to try to make it a full time job,” she said. “I am a nanny and he works in construction so we both are ready to do this full-time.”

Although it might have appeared natural, she was also keen to stress that the routine took a little work. “It was rehearsed a few times we had to make sure we were doing the right things and making sure everybody knew what they were supposed to do.”

Ultimately, they just wanted to do things a little differently. “We wanted to show people fun ways to do their first kiss at a wedding,” Erickson said.

Thankfully, it was well received by friends, family and social media alike. “It was really special, and the guests absolutely adored it,” she said.

The Independents Are Off to the Races, but Is RFK Jr. Offsides or Just Off?

0

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of the former senator and U.S. attorney general, and nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, is expected to announce his candidacy as an independent for the United States presidency today. This is a change of course for RFK Jr., who up until recently was looking to challenge President Biden for the Democratic Party nomination. When it became clear that there was no way that Biden was going to engage with him in debate, not to mention that the Kennedy heir has policy views which are largely out of step with Democratic primary voters, he decided to change tactics to maintain a role in the presidential race by announcing as an independent candidate in the general election.

The issue is what kind of role will Kennedy play? He clearly has no chance of being elected president of the United States.

The question is, will his role be to draw votes away from Biden, or former President Donald Trump, or will his relevancy significantly be diminished by either not getting on the ballot in a meaningful number of states, or simply becoming irrelevant as a candidate by next November?

What Kennedy does represent is the first of what will likely be at least two independent candidacies for president next year. So, his declaration of candidacy not only signifies independents being off to the races, so to speak, but also underscores how “off” Kennedy really is.

While Kennedy has some legitimate claims to being a serious environmentalist, his views on other subjects range from completely crazy to extremely ill-conceived. He is a hardcore anti-vaxxer who has spread nonsense about the harm of all vaccines with a range of theories that have been scientifically debunked. He has been accused of antisemitism by preposterously suggesting that that the Covid-19 virus was engineered to spare Jewish people in claiming that Ashkenazi Jews were immune to the virus. He has also indicated his belief in a bunch of conspiracy notions from radiation from wi-fi causing cancer, to chemicals in the water supply producing more transgender youth, along with a slew of other nutty theories that suggest to those who know his views that he is simply “off.”

Kennedy’s other policy positions are not worth spending a lot of time on given the fringe theories expressed above. It is enough to say that he believes that the United States should stop assistance to Ukraine, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) indicated he would consider appointing Kennedy as commissioner of the FDA if DeSantis were elected president. Hence, it is not hard to demonstrate Kennedy’s views are closest to the Republican fringe—the reason many in the Kennedy clan have disavowed him.

That raises some interesting questions about just what Kennedy’s role in the presidential race would end up being. First, it needs to be made clear that there is no assurance that he will even get on the ballot in most states. There have been rumors based on a meeting he had with the head of the Libertarian Party, that he might get that party’s already established ballot lines. It is unclear whether that will happen, but if it does not, the hard, time consuming, and expensive work of getting on the ballots of 50 states should not be underestimated as a huge hurdle for him.

Moreover, it appears that much of Kennedy’s money so far has come from Republican sources that were thrilled with the notion that he would challenge Biden in a Democratic primary. It is unclear that such money will continue to flow if he is a general election candidate with views closer to MAGA Republicans than Democrats, and he comes to be seen as a threat to Trump. Steve Bannon and Fox News may not find the Kennedy candidacy so interesting to elevate or spotlight anymore.

The limited polling that has been done most recently suggests that Kennedy’s views have sunk in significantly enough that he now has very little standing among Democratic voters but is popular enough among Republican voters to poll better than some of the leading challengers to Trump for the Republican nomination.

Regardless of Kennedy’s role as a third-party candidate, it is becoming clear that there is going to be at least one other independent challenge to what is clearly shaping up to be a Biden versus Trump rematch. The much more significant challenge that is likely to develop is coming from the group No Labels, which looks as if it will get ballot access in all 50 states and put forward a Republican and Democratic unity ticket, consisting of what could well be prominent moderate candidates from both parties. This would be a very serious third-party effort which would undoubtedly drain far more votes from Biden than from Trump and has the White House very concerned. Some believe that the No Labels threat will not come to pass, and that is the hope of anyone who believes re-electing Donald Trump would be a complete disaster for the nation.

While it might be suggested that Kennedy drains as much of the vote from Trump as a moderate unity ticket would drain from Biden, at closer examination that seems quite implausible. The No Labels ticket is likely to be mainstream and centrist, positioning itself between Biden and Trump, clearly siphoning off anti-Trump votes that would otherwise go to Biden. They would mainly consist of Republicans who are disenchanted with the former president and independents who are completely dissatisfied with both Biden and Trump. Kennedy, on the other hand, in espousing views that are anti-vaccine, anti-Ukraine, and anti-government in the form of various conspiracy theories, sounds too much like so many of Trump’s “off” positions that there would seem to be little reason for a voter to cast a ballot for Kennedy instead of embracing all those views by voting for Trump.

A recent NBC news poll indicated that 14 percent of voters would support independent candidates, with support split between a No Labels, a Libertarian, and a Green Party ticket. No candidate names were attached to any of those party labels, so how much support any one of those party candidates would garner means very little at this point. What it did show, however, was that there was a substantial appetite for a choice beyond Biden or Trump and that with that substantial third-party vote, Trump would win the popular vote by 3 points, and undoubtedly win key swing states by that margin.

Where the Kennedy candidacy creates real political three dimensional chess is what the impact Kennedy’s presence on the ballot, if he is able get on it, would have on the No Labels independent candidates. In some respects, if a No Labels candidate is going to drain heavily from Biden, and RFK Jr. has little impact on the Trump vote, it is a better outcome if a No Labels candidate were to win two or three swing states, rather than Trump winning them. That would result in no candidate getting the necessary 270 votes in the electoral college. This would indeed set up an unprecedented situation where the Biden and No Labels tickets might well be able to negotiate a compromise before the Electoral College meets on Dec. 15, following the election, so that the election did not end up in the House of Representatives, which in all likelihood would award the deadlocked Electoral College vote to Donald Trump.

Under this so called “contingent election” scenario, a strong No Labels effort would have to win at least a 34 percent plurality of the vote in those few swing states to create the Electoral College deadlock, but if even 1 percent or 2 percent of the voters looking for an independent candidate were being syphoned off to Kennedy, then that could result in both Biden and the No Labels candidate losing to Trump in those states. That would mean a straight-out Trump victory, with calamitous assists by both Kennedy and No Labels bringing on that disaster.

There are a number of scenarios that spin out from all of this, but the only good one is a one-on-one race where Donald Trump has a clear ceiling that will enable democracy to prevail and Biden to be re-elected. Kennedy has a name that cannot be ignored, but a set of views that voters will probably find easier to support coming out of the mouth of Donald Trump, and Kennedy’s relevance in 2024 may well fade into oblivion. The No Labels effort has no names attached to it, yet, to ignore or not, but represents an existential threat to the Republic by giving Trump an enormous advantage in catalyzing votes to be drained away from Biden. All we do know is that with RFK’s imminent announcement, we are off to the races with independent candidates who may very likely play a decisive role in the 2024 election.

Partnership has Mercedes reimagining space travel as a luxury experience

0

There’s no Mercedes floating around in Space like there is a Tesla, but soon space travelers will be able to escape Earth’s atmosphere in Maybach style. Through a new partnership with Space Perspective, Mercedes-Maybach is pushing its brand boundaries further than ever before.

Space Perspective is the world’s first carbon-neutral spaceflight experience company. It has reimagined travel, aiming to deliver thousands of paying customers, called Space Perspective Explorers, to 100,000 feet above the ground inside a pressurized capsule, called Spaceship Neptune, attached to a giant balloon named the SpaceBalloon.

The capsule is where the Maybach experience is destined to play out. It is where eight Explorers and a captain will be able to enjoy space flight in complete luxury. Chairs are designed to be closer to recliners than airplane seats. There’s meal and cocktail service.

Spaceship Neptune is also home to a “loo with a view”, arguably the most extraordinary restroom ever conceived by residents of the third rock from the sun. A Wi-Fi connection is available during flight.

Transport to space in the pressurized Neptune capsule is aimed to be as gentle for passengers as takeoff and touchdown is for a hot air balloon, despite traveling much higher and in more adverse circumstances. Each journey is slated to take six hours from takeoff to touchdown and offer up 450-mile visibility in every direction thanks to large windows.

Jane Poynter, founder and co-CEO of Space Perspective and Biosphere 2 scientist, told Newsweek that the company’s origins directly stem from her time locked inside Biosphere 2, an experimental, self-sustaining research facility in Oracle, Arizona, for two years from 1991 to 1993.

“It was sealed tighter than the International Space Station of the time. The idea is that planet Earth is Biosphere 1. And so it was a miniaturized version of planet Earth very much simplified, of course, but it had its own little rainforest, a savanna and ocean, a marsh, and where we lived, and where we grew our own food.

“And what was incredible about that personal experience was living inside this system where all of the plants were giving us our oxygen to breathe. And as I breathed out, I knew that the CO2 was going to make the food that we were eating … And I could see the edges of my world, the glass and seal structure of the biosphere. And I really knew at a very deep visceral level that all we had inside our biosphere for those two years was all we had. And of course, by extension, that is the same as Planet Earth.

“And it turns out that this is exactly the same kind of visceral experience that astronauts have. When they see our world, our planet from space. They see that thin blue line, that curved brilliant blue line of our atmosphere, which as astronaut Nicole Stott would say is the only boundary that matters, as it separates us from that dark stark blackness of space. And it’s a profoundly moving experience for astronauts when they go to space.

“[In Spaceship Neptune] there’s no spacesuits, none of that and instead, we’re using a balloon that gently takes people to space to have that quintessential astronaut experience.”

Explorers will travel to and from the capsule in Mercedes-Maybach electric vehicles. “Our partnership with Space Perspective will allow space explorers to ride in style on the ground, and for us to extend the highest level of Maybach refinement and brand experience to the edge of space.” Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach at Mercedes-Benz Group AG said in a press release.

“Pairing our all-electric Spaceship Neptune with the all-electric Mercedes-Maybach represents a sustainable and inspiration-filled future, not to mention a heightened overall experience for Space Perspective Explorers.”

Space Perspective aims to be a greener mode of transportation than the traditional space flight, which requires thousands of tonnes of fossil fuels to burn to propel themselves into the atmosphere.

To date, there are more than 1,650 ticketed Explorers booked for Space Perspective’s travel experience at the cost of $125,000 per person. Space tourism flights are slated to begin in late 2024.

Before liftoff, passengers meet the Space Perspective team at Kennedy Space Center where they’ll get a tour of the company’s facilities and safety briefing. Passengers can book a behind-the-scenes tour of the Space Center to enjoy while on-site before liftoff.

Launch happens from land or sea, and is followed by a 12-mph ascent before the craft reaches 100,000 feet in altitude, three times the height at which a commercial aircraft flies. After a few hours at that height, tourists descend back to Earth before splashing down in the ocean.

Celebrities speak out on Israeli-Palestinian conflict

0

A host of celebrities have taken to social media to express their views on the outbreak of conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Hamas launched an attack on Israel on Saturday in a move that took the Israeli military and security services by surprise, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu subsequently declared: “We are at war.”

At least 700 people have reportedly been killed in Israel and more than 400 in Gaza, the Associated Press said. Since Saturday, Israel has carried out attacks against Hamas, launching “Operation Swords of Iron.”

Hezbollah, an Iran-backed organization that the U.S. considers a terrorist group alongside Hamas, on Sunday launched a barrage of mortar shells into Israel. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) fired artillery into Lebanon. No casualties were reported on either side, according to Reuters.

As the conflict captures international headlines, several celebrities have taken to social media to express their sympathy and support for Israel, as well as the civilians caught up in the violence. There was also support for the Palestinian people.

Sharing news coverage of the conflict, Madonna wrote on Instagram: “What is Happening in Israel is Devastating.. Watching all of these families and especially children being herded, assaulted and murdered in the streets is Heartbreaking.

“Imagine if this was happening to you?? It’s Un-fathomable. Conflicts can never be resolved with violence. Unfortunately Humanity does not understand this Universal truth. Has Never Understood it. We live in a World Ravaged by Hate.”

“My heart goes out to Israel,” the pop star continued. “To Families and Homes that have been destroyed. To children who are lost. To Innocent Victims who have Been Killed. To All who are Suffering or who will suffer from this conflict. I’m Praying For you.”

“I am aware that this is the work of Hamas and there are many innocent people in Palestine who do not support this terrorist organization,” she added. “This Tragic attack will only cause more suffering for everyone Let us all Pray. For Israel. For Peace. For The World.”

In an expiring Instagram Story post, Kylie Jenner shared a post from Israel education nonprofit education organization StandWithUs. “Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel,” read a caption under a photo of the Israeli flag.

A number of other celebrities also posted or showed support for similar images on Instagram, including Jenner’s mother, Kris Jenner, Julia Garner, Sarah Paulson, Sofia Richie, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nina Dobrev, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ashley Tisdale, Mandy Moore and Nicola Peltz.

Also taking to Instagram, Israeli-born actress Gal Gadot posted a photo of the Star of David, under which sat the statement: “I stand with Israel.”

“I stand with Israel you should too,” the Wonder Woman star captioned the image. “The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening!”

Rob Schneider expressed his support for Israel by sharing a photo of the Israeli flag on X, formerly Twitter. The comedian opted to forgo a caption.

In an X post, comedian Sarah Silverman roundly condemned Hamas, while also speaking about the complexities of the issues affecting the region.

“My sister and nieces and nephews are there,” she wrote. “They’ve been protesting BIBI [Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] for months. Fight for a two state solution. Israelis are Jews and Arabs and all colors.

“There is so much complexity to this,” Silverman continued. “But make NO MISTAKE Hamas is a terror organization [whose] mission statement is kill all Jews. This f****** world breaks my heart.”

Also showing support for Israel is 90 Day Fiancé alum Loren Brovarnik, who over the weekend shared a series of photos on Instagram from her trip to Israel. She captioned the post with blue and white hearts.

The TV personality’s husband, Alex Brovarnik, shared several Instagram Story posts in support of Israel and highlighting the devastation in the wake of the attack.

He also shared an “I stand with Israel” post on his grid on Saturday, adding the caption: “A horrific day for all Israeli and Jewish people in the world, it’s not over and it will be hard but we are strong we are together and we will defeat the darkness.”

Actor Michael Rapaport shared a lengthy thread on X, in which he condemned the “disgusting savage attack” and spoke about the broad range of people affected.

“Innocent Jewish people are being hunted down, killed and kidnapped,” he wrote. “This is a slaughter of the Innocent by Terrorists. PERIOD. The most vulnerable Women, Children & the Elderly have been murdered and kidnapped. This was a disgusting savage attack on a Holiday Saturday morning.”

“Some of the Murdered & Kidnapped aren’t even Jewish people! INNOCENT ATTACKS on anyone in plain site,” Rapaport went on.

Rapaport then took aim at those who have linked the attack to President Joe Biden‘s administration’s issuing of a waiver to allow the transfer of $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds from South Korea to Qatar.

“And GOP/MAGA fanboys blaming this catastrophe on the 6Billion dollars don’t surprise me any, you deranged sick Trump fanboys don’t skip a beat to blame anything on Biden,” he commented. “This is about KILLERS OF JEWISH PEOPLE that have never stopped.”

Comedian Roseanne Barr counted herself among those taking aim at Democrats, as she wrote on X: “Praying for Israel. Being attacked by Iran after we gave them billions is exactly what we knew would happen and what I feared most when I called out the Obama/Jarrett foreign ‘plan.’ Make no mistake—This has been underway for years and this is not Biden.”

She also directly responded to Biden’s statement on X that condemned the attack and concluded: “Israel has a right to defend itself – full stop.”

“‘Full stop?’ Whoever is running this account please don’t try to make Hamas funding grandpa criminal moneybags try to seem hip,” Barr wrote.

Caitlyn Jenner pushed back on criticism of those who tied the $6 billion to the attack, commenting on X: “What the hell is the point in attempting to justify the $6 billion that we unfroze for hostages? [Because] it’s held in Qatar? Give me a break.”

Another X user countered that “the money is still in Qatar. Sitting there. Theoretically they haven’t spent any of it. So how is it linked?”

“Borrowing against it (leverage) finance 101,” Jenner said.

Jenner responded to a photo that purported to show a person at a pro-Palestinian rally in the U.S. flashing an image of the swastika.

“If you are silent against the egregious acts of terror by the militant terrorist group – Hamas – killing the most Jews in one day since the Holocaust you are complicit,” she wrote. “Make no mistake – this is who we are fighting against. Modern day Nazism.”

In an X statement on Saturday, Biden said: “The United States stands with the people of Israel.”

“Israeli hostages taken into Gaza are victims of a war crime, terrorism,” wrote broadcaster Geraldo Rivera on X. “If they are not protected and treated humanely, there will be massive retaliation. The world will abandon the Palestinian cause. Hamas started this. There is never a legitimate excuse for targeting civilians.”

The Real Housewives of New York City star Jill Zarin called her X followers to action, writing: “I just urged my members of Congress to stand with Israel as it protects its people from terrorism. Hamas has launched a war on Israel, killing scores of Israelis and taking civilians hostage. America must stand with Israel as it protects its people. Tell Congress to act now.”

“Horrified and heartbroken by the barrage of attacks from Hamas upon civilians in Israel,” Star Trek actor George Takei stated on X. “Innocent people suffer the consequences of violent extremism, and this kind of terrorism only produces deeper, more intractable problems.”

Takei added in a follow-up post that his “thoughts and hopes are for peace, and for democracy for all people in the region, but such a future is proving ever more elusive, I fear.”

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill shared an image of the U.S. and Israeli flags side by side, as he wrote on X: “America stands with Israel.”

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis wrote in an Instagram post about her videos regarding Israelis being kidnapped in the conflict being removed on the platform.

Reposting the videos and images on Sunday, the screen star wrote of social media users having “harassed me all day yesterday as I was grieving, leaving the most horrendous comments on my post in reaction to my simply showing two videos of Israeli girls being kidnapped.”

“In the past I have initiated and organized a fundraiser for my Muslim brothers and sisters who were brutally murdered in New Zealand by a white supremacist,” she went on. “I’ve stood up for our courageous sisters, the women of Iran repeatedly. I’ve supported Palestinian peace NGO’s. I published an open letter on Al Jazeera during the Arab spring of 2011 supporting Arab youth fighting for their freedom.

“But if you post one thing about Jews or Israelis being murdered or kidnapped what happened to me will likely happen to you. The only difference is I was able to get reinstated. I’ve attached a video of an 85 year old grandmother kidnapped being paraded in Gaza.

“Again, I have no words. Only tears. and pain. Thank you to anyone that has spoken up against these atrocities. It shouldn’t have to be a brave act for you to simply speak out against these horrific acts of violence but unfortunately it is. [To] my friends that are posting anything other than about this today, I ask that you please wait just one day to get back to normal.

“For Jews around the world, life will never be normal again. This is our new normal. The innocent kidnapped women, elderly, children, babies and men need all the media’s attention and help to get their story heard.”

Comedian Amy Schumer responded to the attacks by sharing posts on Instagram from plastic surgeon Dr. Sheila Nazarian and Mandana Dayani, former president of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s philanthropic organization Archewell.

“Never in my years as an activist have I seen other activists, upon seeing footage of little girls being killed and dragged through streets, immediately find the burning need to go on the internet and justify their deaths. ‘Oh, here [are] all the reasons that girl was burned alive!'” Dayani’s post read.

“For completely clarity, the only reason you do this is because you have been made to believe that the killing of Jews can even be justified. Because every civilization has taught that the life of a Jew is less valuable than your own.

“It’s the Hitler playbook. Your antisemitism is not unconscious. It is so deeply rooted in your bones and you are so comfortable with it, you are not even able to consider its impact on your friends.”

Nazarian’s post, shared by Schumer, read: “If you are silent when terrorists murder Israelis, stay silent when Israel defends itself.”

Israeli actress Yael Grobglas shared a photo of her country’s flag, writing on Instagram: “Israel is under a massive terrorist attack. Hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians murdered, many kidnapped while others are held hostage. My heart is with everyone back home. I stand with Israel.”

Grobglas edited the post to add that anyone “defending this attack here has been or will be blocked and or reported for hate speech for defending and supporting acts of terrorism.”

Meanwhile, several other social media users showed support for Palestinians.

Swedish singer Zara Larsson was among those, sharing a photo of herself on her Instagram Story, alongside a caption that read: “Oh so it’s stand with Ukraine when Russia invades but not Palesti-.”

On Saturday, former adult film star Mia Khalifa shared a message on X that led to a public firing from her role as an advisor at Red Light Holland, which produces and distributes magic mushrooms.

“Can someone please tell the freedom fighters in Palestine to flip their phones and film horizontal,” read Khalifa’s social media post.

Responding, Red Light Holland CEO Todd Shapiro wrote: “This is such a horrendous tweet @miakhalifa. Consider yourself fired effective immediately. Simply disgusting. Beyond disgusting. Please evolve and become a better human being.

“The fact you are condoning death, rape, beatings and hostage taking is truly gross. No words can explain your ignorance. We need humans to come together, especially in the face of tragedy. I pray for you to become a better person. However, it clearly seems like it’s too late for you.”

A screenshot of Shapiro’s X post was shared on the Red Light Holland account, prompting Khalifa to respond: “I’d say supporting Palestine has lost me business opportunities, but I’m more angry at myself for not checking whether or not I was entering into business with Zionists. My bad.”

In a separate post responding to the screenshot, Khalifa said: “I just wanna make sure there’s 4k footage of my people breaking down the walls of the open air prison they’ve been forced out of their homes and into so we have good options for the history books that write about how how they freed themselves from apartheid.

“Please worry about your sad little company lacking direction and purpose before you utter my name again. I stand with all people fighting oppression, now and always, do your research before begging for my investment in your little project, I’m from LEBANON, are you insane for expecting me to be on the side of colonialism you f****** weirdo.”

Khalifa also shared a screenshot of a direct message purporting to have been sent by radio personality and wrestler Peter Rosenberg that read: “Awful tweet dude …. Wow.”

“I stand with all oppressed people, everywhere, until no one is fighting for freedom,” the screenshot showed Khalifa responding. “I’m from Lebanon, I’ve lived through more air [raids] by the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] than your tiny privileged brain could ever know how to work through.

“[You] know nothing but tall tales of a land that doesn’t belong to you, created by a military that has nothing to do with your peaceful god loving religion. Don’t you ever disrespect me and my experience with what geopolitical war is again you man child.”

Newsweek has contacted Rosenberg via email for comment.

Elsewhere, Khalifa responded to an X post discussing those who have publicly expressed support for Palestinians.

The X user stated in their post that “a lot of people forget that being pro Palestine is actually like an unpopular stance. We saw what happened to Bella Hadid and how much backlash she got and mind you the girl is Palestinian. So all these celebs supporting all this while upsetting is also just unsurprising.”

“If you see a celebrity supporting just TRUSTTTT it’s the money that’s talking,” said Khalifa in response, adding that “these people have no soul or opinions of their own or the ability for critical thinking and will do/say anything to appease their investors in their businesses.”

While Rihanna has not yet spoken out on the conflict, one of her Instagram posts from 2021, in which she spoke about the loss of lives in the region, has received renewed attention on the social media platform.

At the time, fighting had broken out following weeks of tension in East Jerusalem over the proposed evictions of Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood to make room for Israeli settlers.

“My heart is breaking with the violence I’m seeing displayed between Israel and Palestine!” Rihanna began in her statement. “I can’t bear to see it! Innocent Israeli and Palestinian children are hiding in bomb shelters, over 40 lives lost in Gaza alone, at least 13 of whom were also innocent children!”

“There needs to be some kind of resolve!” the musician continued. “We are sadly watching innocent people fall victim to notions perpetrated by government and extremists, and this cycle needs to be broken!”

As events continue to unfold, Biden condemned the attacks, while stating that the United States is standing by to offer its support to Israel.

“The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel,” Biden said in a statement emailed to Newsweek by the White House. “Terrorism is never justified.”

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres also “strongly” condemned Hamas’ actions.

“The attacks have so far claimed numerous Israeli civilian lives and injured many hundreds,” a spokesperson for Guterres said in an official statement on Saturday. “The Secretary-General is appalled by reports that civilians have been attacked and abducted from their own homes.”

Martin Scorsese compares Donald Trump to Jordan Belfort

0

Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese sees some similarities between former President Donald Trump and the “Wolf of Wall Street” himself, Jordan Belfort

Scorsese made the comments about Trump during an interview at the London Film Festival. The Oscar winner was at the festival for a screening of his new film, Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brendan Fraser.

The panel’s moderator, director Edgar Wright played a clip from Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated film about Belfort, The Wolf of Wall Street, based on the disgraced stockbroker’s book of the same name.

“Some of your films, people are punished for their sins. In Wolf of Wall Street they’re celebrated,” Wright said to Scorsese, who likened Belfort to Trump in his reply.

“Politically, the country, they elected [Trump]. It’s about ‘kill, go get the money, do anything you want, you can’t do anything to me.’ When he’s saying ‘I don’t have to pay taxes to a certain extent because I have smart lawyers,’ he’s right, it’s true—it’s legal. Doesn’t mean it’s right, but it’s legal,” Scorsese said of the former president’s multiple indictments.

Trump faced court in New York City last week in a civil fraud trial. New York Attorney General Letitia James’ filed a $250 million lawsuit against Trump, his adult sons, and the Trump Organization last year, accusing them of illegally misrepresenting business assets for financial benefit. Trump has denied all wrongdoing.

The Wolf of Wall Street was released to critical acclaim in 2013 and made $402 million at the global box office. It was based on Belfort’s book of the same name, which documented his tumultuous career as a stockbroker.

The film starred long-time Scorsese collaborator DiCaprio as Belfort and detailed Belfort’s rise to the top of the financial world and subsequent fall, as well as his battle with drugs and his marriages.

Belfort pleaded guilty to fraud after being charged with numerous crimes related to stock market manipulation and running a long-term scam involving penny stocks in 1999. He was sentenced to four years in prison in 2003 and served 22 months before his release.

Scorsese’s comments come after The Wolf of Wall Street star Cristin Milioti, who played Belfort’s first wife, revealed that Trump crashed the set of the movie while they were filming a pivotal scene outside the Trump Tower in New York City.

“That was a wild night,” Milioti told The Independent. of the scene in which she confronts Belfort about cheating on her and hits him repeatedly. “We shot from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and we did that scene over and over and over.

As for the former president, Milioti said: “He crashed the set, and he was a complete and utter buffoon, as we all know.”

William and Kate’s "royal fairytale" timeline that inspired ‘The Crown’

0

Netflix’s hit royal drama, The Crown, is coming to an end after six seasons and 60 episodes charting the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II and her family—with the final episodes being split into two action packed installments.

In an announcement on Monday, the streaming giant revealed new details about the highly anticipated final season, which will not only cover the events surrounding the tragic death of Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki) but will also introduce the burgeoning romance of a young Prince William (Ed McVey) and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy).

The show is likely to bring with it a new wave of new criticism which has plagued the show since its debut in 2016.

Over the seven years it has been on screens there have been calls for disclaimers on episodes identifying that it is a work of fiction not wholly based on fact, with prominent voices claiming viewers could be easily misled. So far, Netflix has resisted these calls.

Though some commentators have found fault with the depictions of the real life events which plagued the royal family over the years covered in The Crown, it has proved a hit with audiences.

The show has received a total of 69 Emmy nominations so far in its run, with 21 wins, including awards for Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth Seasons 1 and 2) and Josh O’Connor (Prince Charles Seasons 3 and 4).

Here, Newsweek looks at everything we know about Season 6 of The Crown.

When Will Season 6 of The Crown Be Released?

The Crown‘s sixth season will be released in two parts. The first installment of four episodes will debut globally on November 16 and will cover the events surrounding the death of Princess Diana.

The second installment of six episodes will debut on December 14 and will look at how the royal family moved through the 1990s into the new millennium in the wake of Diana’s death, including what Netflix described as William and Kate’s “royal fairytale” romance.

What Year Will Events in Season 6 of The Crown End?

Netflix has announced that the events covered in the final season of The Crown will run from 1997 to 2005.

The show’s fifth season closed with events at the beginning of the summer of 1997. Queen Elizabeth was preparing to say goodbye to her beloved Royal Yacht Britannia, Prince Charles was working with a PR spin doctor to make his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles palatable to the public, and Princess Diana was preparing for a vacation with the billionaire Harrods owner, Mohamed Al Fayed.

The Crown Season 6 Timeline: Which Royal Events Will Be Included?

The Crown‘s final season will cover one of the most dramatic periods in the recent history of the British monarchy, although it remains to be seen which specific events will make it to the screen over the course of the final 10 episodes.

The season will open with Princess Diana’s meeting and romance with Mohamed Al Fayed’s movie producer son, Dodi Fayed. It was with Fayed that the princess took a summer vacation to the South of France at the end of August 1997 where they were furiously pursued by paparazzi.

Before their return to London, the couple stopped over in Paris where, in the early hours of August 31, 1997, the car they were traveling in at speed during a paparazzi car chase crashed into the central pillar of a road tunnel. Fayed and the car’s driver were killed on impact. After attempts by medical professionals to save her life, Diana was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The tragic death of Diana at the age of just 36 sparked a wave of international mourning and a public backlash of anger towards the monarchy, which had been seen as the driving cause for much of the princess’ unhappiness.

Moving on from Diana’s death, Queen Elizabeth lost two further family members in the build up to her 2002 Golden Jubilee. The monarch’s sister, Princess Margaret, died in February 2001 and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother died just weeks later at the age of 101.

Against this backdrop of family tragedy, a happier development came in the form of Prince William‘s new romance with Kate Middleton.

The couple met while studying at St Andrew’s University in 2001. They became friends while studying art history before William changed his degree to geography.

A milestone in the couple’s friendship occurred in 2002 when Kate walked in a charity fashion show at which William was in attendance. Kate was photographed wearing a sheer outfit which was later sold at auction in 2011 for £65,000.

The couple shared a flat together in the second year of their studies and reportedly began seriously dating in 2003.

William and Kate would later announce their engagement in 2010, marrying in an elaborate marriage ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 2011. Today they have three children: Prince George (born 2013), Princess Charlotte (born 2015) and Prince Louis (born 2018).

With the couple’s relationship continuing while they finished the course of their university studies, another royal romance marked a milestone at the time, with Charles and Camilla announcing their engagement on Valentine’s Day 2005.

The couple’s road to the altar was not smooth. Following the death of Princess Diana, a largescale public relations operation was undertaken to win around not only the public’s support, but also that of Queen Elizabeth.

The marriage eventually took place in Windsor on April 9, 2005, following a postponement when Pope John Paul II died.

Queen Elizabeth did not attend the marriage ceremony, which took place at the Windsor Guildhall, owing to it being the second marriages of both Charles and Camilla who divorced their first spouses in the 1990s.

Elizabeth subsequently hosted a blessing ceremony for the couple at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, provoking comment as to her happiness regarding the union with her decision to wear white.

Netflix previously released a teaser image of Charles and Camilla’s order of service, leading fans to speculate that Season 6 of The Crown could close with the wedding of Charles and Camilla, followed by some kind of on-screen tribute to Elizabeth who died in September 2022 as Britain’s longest reigning monarch, aged 96.

‘The Crown’ Season 6 teaser trailer has best Queen Elizabeth likeness yet

0

Netflix has released a sneak peak at Imelda Staunton’s latest portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown and the actress looks just like her subject.

The sixth and final season of the award-winning royal family drama will drop its first four episodes on November 16, before the final six land in Part 2 on December 14.

Netflix has released a trailer to get fans excited and the focus is squarely on the queen, currently played by Staunton.

The teaser also, however, includes clips of Claire Foy and Olivia Colman who played the queen in past seasons.

Fans are treated to a fleeting glance at Foy on a TV screen, while Colman appears in a framed picture and both can be heard talking.

However, it is not until around half way through the trailer that Staunton’s face becomes visible in profile giving viewers a chance to see how her likeness compares to her predecessors’. And Staunton certainly bears a remarkable resemblance to the late queen.

Foy’s queen says: “The Crown is a symbol of permanence. It’s something you are, not what you do.”

“Some portion of our natural selves is always lost,” Colman’s queen adds. “We have all made sacrifices.”

“It is not a choice, it is a duty,” Staunton’s queen continues. “But what about the life I put aside, the woman I put aside?”

Seasons four and five of the hit show depicted the disintegration of Princess Diana’s marriage to King Charles III, still known as Princes Charles in the show, in the 1990s.

The final scene of season five shows Princess Diana getting ready for a vacation on Mohamed Al-Fayed’s yacht, the Jonikal, shortly before her death in a Paris car crash in August 1997.

Part 1 of season six of The Crown will show the buildup to her death while Part 2 will show its aftermath, including the start of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s relationship.

The queen’s Golden Jubilee, in 2002, will also feature and the timeline will stretch just far enough to include Charles and Queen Camilla’s wedding in 2005.

Prince Harry will also be shown, raising the prospect that some features of his memoir, Spare, might be included.

Filming for season six had already begun by the time time season five was released, meaning it is possible the book, released in January, came too late.

However, the cast were seen filming on location at St Andrews University, in Scotland, in March, suggesting it is equally possible the script could simply have been updated following the memoir’s release.

If show makers did manage to slip some of Harry’s perspective into the script, it could provoke an explosive response in Britain.

A Netflix press release read: “The first four episodes (Part 1) depict a relationship blossoming between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before a fateful car journey has devastating consequences.

“The final chapter (Part 2) is told across six episodes. Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother’s death as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion.

“As she reaches her Golden Jubilee, the Queen reflects on the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Charles and Camilla and the beginnings of a new Royal fairytale in William and Kate.

“For Part 2, taking on the roles of Prince William and Prince Harry will be Ed McVey and Luther Ford. Joining them will be Meg Bellamy as Kate Middleton. These will be debut roles for all three actors.”

"Love Is Blind" edits to Renee and Carter’s relationship raise questions

0

Love Is Blind fans have been busy speculating why Renee Poche and Carter Wall’s relationship was cut from the show.

The fifth season of Netflix‘s reality dating show is coming to a close, with many viewers scratching their heads about what happened to the couple.

Love Is Blind sees single people get to know each other while existing in individual pods and without seeing each other’s face. If they hit it off, the pair can choose to get engaged before meeting in person.

Renee, a 32-year-old veterinarian, and construction worker Carter, 30, were a huge hit on the show, but appeared less on the series as it advanced towards the finale.

People quickly flocked to social media to speculate what happened, especially after it was revealed they had applied for a marriage license and attended the traditional Mexican trip with other couples from the series.

Renee and Carter even made it to their wedding day, where he was told “no” at the altar.

But other than being spotted in some scenes, their relationship was cut entirely from the show. TikTok creator @storytimewithrikkii has suggested Renee already had a boyfriend when she entered the Love Is Blind pod.

The TikToker, who is a self-styled reality show expert, also speculated that Carter brought another women to the couple’s shared apartment during the TV experiment.

According to Rickii, Carter also threatened producers to leave the show if they showed his messy storyline.

Rickii claimed her source for the information was Renee herself, who also told the TikToker that she married a different man in March this year.

“I did ask her to comment on when she actually met her current husband and she refused to. She also said that it makes her very sad anything to do with their story being cut after everything she went through,” Rikkii said.

Newsweek contacted Netflix by email for comment.

One person commented on Rikkii’s TikTok claiming they were friends with Carter and even attended the Mexican wedding.

“I was at the wedding, they DID go to Mexico together and moved in together. They need to release their cut… lol it’s so good,” the friend wrote.

Renee also seemed to confirm she had been in a relationship with Carter when she posted a photo of her and fellow contestant Taylor to Instagram. Taylor was dating J.P, who alongside Carter were known for their American patriotism.

“Us wondering where our men were on January 6,” a text over the photo read, referring the insurrection on Capitol Hill in 2021.

Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen had previously confirmed that several engagements were not “followed” this season and didn’t make it to air.

“Each season, there are lots of stories that we don’t tell, regardless of whether couples get engaged or not,” Coelen told Variety in September. “Some of them even, we will follow for a little bit and not show their story on the show… It’s a little bit of a judgment call.”

Joan Rivers called out Kim Cattrall for not using a condom

0

Less than a week after sharing her jaw-dropping new underwear campaign with Skims, Kim Cattrall has taken over Instagram yet again. This time, it’s due to a throwback clip with Joan Rivers, with the legendary comedian chastising the star for not using condoms during the peak of the AIDS crisis.

The interview took place during The Joan Rivers Show in 1987, and shows a 31-year-old Cattrall rocking a multi-colored prom dress and discussing contraception with the host.

“There’s so much more to find out about you. Oh yes,” Rivers says while grabbing Cattrall’s hands. “Birth control, we have so much to go into,” she continues, while the audience bursts into laughter.

In response, Cattrall covers her face in embarrassment, before replying: “I haven’t done that yet.”

“You don’t use birth control?” a stunned Rivers asks Cattrall, to which the actress awkwardly responds: “I’m very lucky.”

“But you must,” Rivers tells her. “Everyone must use a condom now, you must. Promise me,” to which the audience applauds.

“I will Joan,” Cattrall replies. “I want to live and make more movies and children.”

Rivers tells Cattrall to “think of that in a moment of passion and use a Trojan,” with Cattrall promising she will.

The clip re-emerged on October 8 after being shared to Instagram by @everyoutfitonsatc. The fan account is dedicated to all things Sex and the City—particularly the show’s legendary fashion—as well as its ongoing reboot And Just Like That.

Cattrall played maneater Samantha Jones for six seasons of SATC and its two movies, for which she won a Golden Globe, two Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, and a Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Award, amongst countless nominations during the show’s 1998 to 2004 run.

However, at the time of her appearance on The Joan Rivers Show, Cattrall was better known for starring in movies, which included acting alongside Jack Lemmon in the dramedy Tribute (1981), P.E. teacher Miss Honeywell in the teen sex romp Porky’s (1981), a cadet in Police Academy (1985) and as Kurt Russell’s love interest in Big Trouble in Little China (1986).

1987 was also the height of the AIDS crisis, which began in the early 1980s and had become a public health crisis by the end of the decade.

Fans couldn’t get enough of the resurfaced clip, with erin718 writing: “Joan’s not playing, she means it.”

“It was sincere and coming from a place of concern and love,” said cheekyfaerie.

“[Joan] was an early AIDS advocate so it fits,” wrote billiegeez, referencing the star’s fundraising efforts to fight the disease during her lifetime.

“What a legend!!!” commented loubelle30, while aleah.m said: “The whole conversation is just so sweet.”

Newsweek has reached out to Kim Cattrall for comment via email.
